The Rebound conforms to the formula laid down by almost every other tepid romantic comedy. The ‘mismatched’ couple discovers, ever so conveniently, that they are made for each other. Throughout, the characterisations are as hackneyed as the plot. Predictable from the outset, the film peters out into a roseate resolution. A lot of footage is needlessly expended on the young man’s travels, including a montage of some north Indian towns.
The ageing Catherine Zeta-Jones strives to infuse some sparkle into her sketchily-written part. But the intended feel-good romance is much too laboured and sluggishly paced. Avoid.
