The Maharashtra Congress has raised objection to advertisements featuring Aamir Khan and allegedly indirecting promoting the election plank of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in newspapers on polling day. The party will lodge a complaint with the state election commission (SEC) on Wednesday.
The party has claimed the advertisement issued by Mumbai First organisation was close to the chief minister Devendra Fadnavis and it clearly promoted the issue promoted by the BJP during the campaign for the BMC elections.
The SEC has banned any political advertisement after 5.30pm on February 19, the deadline of the campaign for the candidates in civic polls.
“The advertisements in English and Marathi newspapers clearly highlight the issues of ‘transparency’ and ‘change’ promoted by the BJP. Although it has been issued by an organisation, everybody knows it is closely association to Fadnavis. This is a blatant violation of code of conduct and we have a meeting with the election commissioner to lodge a complaint on Wednesday,” said Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant.
State election commissioner JS Saharia said they will take cognisance once the complaint was registered. “We have not received the complaint yet. Raising the issues faced by citizens for awareness in the election is the right of any organisation. We will take action if a ‘nexus’ is proved by the complainant,” he said.

{{/usCountry}}A Charni Road-based advocate and Yuva Sena officer-bearer Dharmendra Mishra, too, has lodged a complaint with the SEC objecting to the advertisement.
