A day before voting for the BMC polls begins, the city police have taken preventive action against 3,000 accused and detained 1,100 people with criminal records.

Looking at the serious offences committed by the accused, the police have externed 125 suspects from the city and neighbouring cities like Thane and Navi Mumbai. Warrants have been issued again 844 people, who have committed petty offences.
The Mumbai police have imposed section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code in the city, which allows action if five or more people gather at one spot.
“We have been taking all precautions and will keep an eye on every booth and sensitive places, not only during the election, but even after the election,” said Ashok Dudhe, deputy commissioner of police and spokesperson of Mumbai police.
The Mumbai police are vigilant to ensure free and impartial election in a peaceful atmosphere and to maintain law and order in the city. of the 7,297 voting booths in the city, 726 booths have been demarcated as sensitive.
The police bandobast will be deployed 100m from voting booths. The nakabandi and patrolling have started at all major entry and exit points, said Dudhe.
