Body of 24-year-old who fell into Dombivli drain in Maharashtra found after more than 30 hours

Harshad Jimkal had fallen into the 3-km-long, 20-feet-deep Nandivli nullah around 9pm on Tuesday.

The body of a 24-year old man who fell into a storm water drain in Dombivli, near Mumbai, on Tuesday was recovered finally on Thursday morning.

The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) fire brigade team and the Thane disaster management cell found Harshad Jimkal’s body in a nullah at Jyoti Nagar in Dombivli’s Ayre village.

“The body was found at the end of Nandivli nullah, where it meets Kopar creek. We believe the body is of the same person who fell into the nullah based on the description given by his relatives,” said Dattatray Shelke, fire officer, KDMC.

“It was tough for the team to find the body as the water is flowing rapidly. The nullah also has a huge amount of silt, which made the search difficult,” said Santosh Kadam, chief of Thane Municipal Corporation’s Regional Disaster Management Cell.

A resident of Gandhi Nagar in Dombivli, Jimkal had fallen into the three-km-long, 20-feet-deep Nandivli nullah around 9pm on Tuesday. The Manpada police and the fire brigade launched search operations after passers-by who saw him fall alerted them. The police said locals initially thought two people had drowned.
