First combined list for medical admissions in Maharashtra to be out today

The first combined list for state medical and dental admissions at government and private institutes will be announced on Tuesday. The list will be released on www.dmer.org in the early hours of Tuesday.

Officials from the Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) told HT that the list will be considered as the first list. However, students whose names had appeared in the previous list — which has been nullified — and are happy with their placement can hold on to their seats.

The decision to announce the combined list was taken on Monday after a meeting between representatives of Association of Maharashtra Unaided Private Medical and Dental Colleges (AMUPMDC) and medical education minister Girish Mahajan.

“We have agreed to start admissions on two conditions — one, our demand for appropriate fee hike should be met with and second, we should be allowed to take an undertaking from all students that they will pay the revised fee whenever implemented,” said PA Inamdar from AMUPMDC.

While a list of 2,450 students placed in government-run medical and dental colleges was released on July 28, several were unhappy with the colleges they got. They said these colleges were low on their choice list. The new combined list will have names of all the applicants once again.

“For many students this will be a chance to upgrade to the institute of their choice. However, those who are happy with allotments made in the first list can hold on to their seats,” said Dr Pravin Shingare, director, DMER.

He added that this new list will now be considered as the first list of the admission season and another list will be announced by next week. “Since we are supposed to conduct only two common admission rounds, we made the decision to discount the previous list,” he added.
