The state moved the Supreme Court on Wednesday, seeking inclusion of deemed institutes in the centralised admissions process for MBBS and BDS admissions for the academic year 2016-17.

This comes less than a week after the Bombay high court exempted deemed institutes in the state from being part of the centralised admissions process for this academic year.

“We have approached the SC to make sure that deemed institutes also admit students under the centralised admissions process for 2016-17. We are already fighting a case against private institutes in Maharashtra,” said Pravin Shingare, director, Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DMER).

Meanwhile, based on the interim order passed by the Bombay high court on Wednesday, the state Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DMER) has invited applications from students across the country.

“The competent admission authority has been directed to invite applications and preference forms from candidates, who have appeared for NEET-UG-2016, on all India basis for seeking admission to private unaided colleges for medical and dental disciples for year 2016-17. Accordingly such candidates are invited to submit their applications and preferences on www.dmer.org,” states the circular.

Many parents and students had gathered outside the Bombay high court on Wednesday.
