Terror suspect Nazim alias Umar Shamshad Ahmed, who was arrested from Mumbra with three others on April 20 by Uttar Pradesh Anti-terrorism Squad (ATS) officials and their Maharashtra counterparts, watched about jihad on Facebook and discussed them with others.
According to the ATS, Ahmed, from Uttar Pradesh, was allegedly head of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria’s (ISIS) Bijnor module and was planning terror strike in several parts of India with Zeeshan alias Ghazi Baba alias Muzammil, Faizan alias Mufti and Ahtesham alias SK alias Pintoo.
During interrogation police learnt that Ahmed had lived in Damam in Saudi Arabia for two years and worked as a plumber. He returned to India and then went back to Habab Makka in Saudi Arabia in 2015, said an ATS officer.
“Ahmed was radicalised by jihadi ideas while watching videos on Jihad on Facebook and also started chatting on the topic with others on the medium,” said the ATS officer.
The joint operation also had police from Maharashtra ATS, Bihar, Punjab and Andhra Pradesh and the Delhi police’s Special Cell.
The police group was formed following a tip-off provided by the Delhi’s Special Cell that a suspected terror group was arranging arms and ammunition for an attack, said the ATS official.
