The Vile Parle police arrested a 23-year-old man who allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl on the false pretext of marriage, and getting her pregnant. The accused was produced before a sessions court on Wednesday and remanded to judicial custody.

According to the Vile Parle police, the duo had been a couple for few a years and intended to marry. They live in the same neighbourhood. Earlier this year, the accused raped her at his home.
Earlier this month, the minor girl experienced stomach pain and was rushed to a government hospital where it was found out that she was five months pregnant. The hospital authorities informed the Vile Parle police.
The victim’s mother then registered the case, and the girl’s statement was recorded. She told the police that the accused had promised to marry her.
An FIR has been registered under section 376 of Indian Penal Code and 4, 8 and 12 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused was arrested on November 19, and was remanded to police custody till November 23.
