The man who jumped off the Bandra-Worli Sea Link on Monday night had given a missed call to his home in Gujarat from the cab driver’s phone, which helped his family claim the body and the police identify the man three days after his suicide, the police said.

Bhavesh Rajendra Shah, 52, a lawyer, took three rounds of the sea link in a cab before he asked the taxi driver to stop and then he jumped off the bridge. The body was fished out from the Worli side of the bridge early on Tuesday.

On Friday, the brother of Shah reached Mumbai to take his body to his family in Ahmedabad. According to the Worli police, they got a call from their only witness — the taxi driver — that an Amit Shah from Ahmedabad had contacted him. “The taxi driver told us that the passenger had borrowed his mobile phone during the ride and gave it back as soon as he dialled a number saying the phone did not get connected. Amit told the driver his sister-in-law Alpa had received a missed call,” said Gajanan Desurkar, senior inspector, Worli police station.
