Mumbai man sends 64-year-old Bollywood actress lewd texts, death threats; police file case

The Juhu police have filed a case against a 38-year-old man for allegedly sending his former acquaintance, a 64-year-old Bollywood actress, objectionable messages and threatening to kill her and her children.

The police registered a case on January 27 under sections 354 D (stalking) 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 342 (punishment for wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code.

They will investigate the matter before deciding on a course of action, said an officer of the Juhu police station, who did not wish to be identified.

Police said the heroine, who was a leading Bollywood star in the 70s, and the accused knew each other as they had planned to conduct a business transaction in the past.

They said they have recorded the actress’ statement and will record that of the accused soon. Police said they will also collect evidence, in the form of the text messages sent by the accused. Officials said they have not found any links between the current complaint and proposed business deal. They, however, said they will look into the deal that was proposed between the two.
