Police crackdown to focus on city’s western and northern suburbs

The anti-narcotics cell (ANC) of the Mumbai police has decided to focus their attention on the western and northern suburbs of the city. The ANC officials said this is because drug peddlers are targeting aspiring actors and models who stay in areas like Oshiwara and Lokhandwala.

So far, the area have seen a high demand of cocaine and MD

Officials said that of late their informers have been telling them about the increasing problem of peddlers taking strugglers in the city for a ride and also targeting rich kids from this area to ensure the sale of drugs is high. “The ANC has decided to target these peddlers and in a way send a stern message to peddlers across the city. This is the reason we have kept a watch on these areas and have arrested a few people too,” an ANC official said.

So far, the area sees a high demand of cocaine and mephedrone (MD). Initially, cocaine was in high demand but was costly and was replaced by MD, however, after the increased crackdown on MD, cocaine is back in demand, another official added.

Deputy commissioner of police (ANC) Shivdeep Lande said they were keeping a watch on peddlers in the western suburbs apart from other parts of the city.
