NIA to probe ISIS Parbhani module

The agency, on Wednesday, registered a fresh case against Naser Bin Yafai Chaus, 31, a contractor and his ISIS handler, Farooq, based on the case registered by the Maharashtra ATS.

The NIA will now investigate the Parbhani module of ISIS, where four men allegedly conspired to attack the office of superintendent of the police in Parbhani.

The agency, on Wednesday, registered a fresh case against Naser Bin Yafai Chaus, 31, a contractor and his ISIS handler, Farooq, based on the case registered by the Maharashtra ATS.

On July 14, the ATS arrested Chaus after the officers received a tip-off that he was radicalised and was planning to join the ISIS with the help of Farooq. However, during interrogation, the ATS learnt that Chaus wanted to explode the police headquarters in Parbhani and Nanded during Ramzan.

As the case dealt with the ISIS and its modules in India, the home affairs ministry, had on September 8, ordered to transfer it to the NIA, which then registered a fresh case, said a source from the NIA.

According to the FIR registered by the central agency, Chaus was a sympathiser of the ISIS. The agency alleged he was in constant touch with Farooq, who had also promised to supply pistols to India to execute the terror attack.

This led to the arrest of Shahid Khan, 24, an ITI dropout on July 24 and Iqbal Ahmed Kabir Ahmed, 28, who worked in a mobile phone shop, on August 7. The fourth accused Raisuddin Siddique, 37, a teacher from Hingoli, was arrested on August 8. Siddique was allegedly the commander in the Parbhani module.
