IAS officer P Velarasu took charge as chief of the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Commissioner (KDMC) after former commissioner E Ravendiran was transferred to Navi Mumbai last week.

Velarasu had been a collector of Thane district earlier , but this is the first time he has been appointed as a municipal corporation commissioner.

“There are several problems here in Kalyan Dombivli. I will try to give better facilities to the citizens. This is my first experience as a municipal commisisoner., so I will take some time to learn about the problems here,” he said.

Velarasu said that he hopes all the corporators and civic administration will work together to solve civic issues. Some of the problems he highlighted included poor solid waste management and basic civic amenities.

Earlier last week , IAS officer Parimal Singh was appointed as the commissioner for KDMC. Since Singh turned down the offer, Velarasu was appointed as the civic body chief with immediate effect.
