Marathi film producer dies after posting ‘reasons’ on Facebook, Pune police book wife, kin

Sources close to Tapkir’s family said that his wife and two brothers-in law have decided to move court for bail on Tuesday.

Pune police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the wife of Marathi film producer Atul Tapkir, who committed suicide in a city hotel on Sunday. Two of Tapkir’s brothers-in-law have also been booked for abetment of suicide.

The FIRs were registered on Monday after the police recorded statements of Tapkir’s mother, father and other family members. Sources close to Tapkir’s family said that his wife and two brothers-in law have decided to move court for bail on Tuesday.

In another development, Pune police commissioner Rashmi Shukla has ordered an inquiry into Tapkir’s charge in his suicide note, that police took Rs10,000 from him to avoid his arrest. Tapkir’s wife had registered a complaint against her husband and father-in-law for harassing her. In his suicide note that the actor posted on Facebook, Tapkir had said that he avoided his arrest after giving the police cash of Rs10,000.

He had cited depression and dispute with wife as the reasons behind his extreme step.

Tapkir had produced Marathi film, Dhol Tashe, which was released in 2015.
