All parties agree to vacate South Mumbai offices for Metro 3

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation had sent notices to the NCP, Shiv Sena, Samajwadi Party, Peasant and Workers Party (PWP) to vacate their offices near Mantralaya to make way for a Metro station.

In an unusual move, all political parties that have been asked to vacate their south Mumbai offices to make way for Metro 3 station have shown readiness to relocate elsewhere. The parties have cited the need for development as the reason behind their approach.

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation had sent notices to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Shiv Sena, Samajwadi Party, Peasant and Workers Party (PWP) to vacate their offices near Mantralaya to make way for a Metro station.

NCP leader Ajit Pawar met MMRDA commissioner UPS Madan on Monday evening, after he was informed about the notice given to his party to vacate its office on the Free Press Journal Marg.

“As this project was launched by our government and is in the interest of public, we are ready to vacate our office. We want the current government to provide us an alternative office space,” said Pawar.

Shiv Sena MP Anil Desai said, “We have requested the MMRDA to shift us to another property, which will be close to Mantralaya. If shifting is for a public project, we will cooperate.”

Meanwhile, Madan said, “We will relocate the party offices to nearby places. Once the construction activities are over, we will construct two towers on the land, where these political parties will be given space for their offices.”
