Call for combating terrorism at BRICS conclave

Naidu inaugurated the convclave, with Maharashtra Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, CM Devendra Fadnavis and dignitaries from other BRICS countries

India asked BRICS countries to come together to combat terrorism, calling it a major global concern. Union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu said for economic prosperity and development in this part of the globe, the entire world must to join hands to fight terror.

Naidu was speaking at the inaugural function of the three-day BRICS Friendship Cities Conclave 2016 at a Mumbai hotel. The minister said today, western countries have also realised the terror threat and are uniting to combat it . He said the world should come together to crush terrorism, which has no relation to any religion.

As BRICS countries are home to a major part of the global population, in the absence of peace, steady growth will not be possible, Naidu said.

Naidu inaugurated the convclave, with Maharashtra Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao, CM Devendra Fadnavis and dignitaries from other BRICS countries . More than 75 delegates are participating in nine sessions focussed on urban issues.

“All major BRICS cities are faced with the similar challenges - urban governance, inclusivity, making cities safe and secure and urban transport, and they have found solutions to them in their own way. The deliberations over the next three days will give insights through shared experience and guidance,” Naidu said.

The deliberations during the conclave will focus on strengthening urban governance, making BRICS cities inclusive, safe and secure, improving urban transport,financing infrastructure and building sustainable cities among other urban issues.

Naidu released a collection of Essays titled The Making of Vibrant BRICS Cities, while MaharashtraGovernor released a special postal cover on occasion of the summit.
