Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis announced the scrapping of the controversial proposed Mumbai development plan (DP). The decision was taken in the cabinet meeting on Tuesday following a report submitted by a committee headed by chief secretary Swadheen Kshatriya which recommended creating a new plan following the complaints from citizens and political parties.

Hindustan Times has been consistently reporting on the defects in the DP which include roads running through developed plots, green zones being opened for development, heritage buildings excluded from it, residential zones converted to commercial among other issues.

According to sources, the BMC has been asked to frame a new plan and decide the next course of action within the next 4 months.
