The hour-long workshops, open to dancers and amateurs of all ages, will teach three dance styles: commercial grind hook hip-hop style, wacking and lyrical hip-hop. The last session will involve dancing in pairs, but it is not mandatory for participants to sign up with a partner.

“Our aim is to make dance accessible to all, so for the workshops, we have selected styles that are popular, fun and easy to learn,” says Aanchal Gupta, director of Arts in Motion.

“At each workshop, the class will learn a routine choreographed to a well-known song.”

Participants can sign up for all three workshops or choose one or two of their choice. At the end of the sessions, however, all participants can sit in to watch a performance by the Melvin Louis Dance Company. “The aim of the performance is to give audiences an idea of where they can reach by learning how to dance,” says Gupta.
