The fire is said to have started around 8pm from a telephone tower and spread to the approximately 3,000 square feet godown that had a stock of scrap fibre optics cables, generator and furniture in compound. The blaze was brought under control after half-an-hour.

Eight fire engines, six water tankers and one ambulance were sent to the spot. According to the fire brigade, there were no casualties or injuries as the godown was closed and residential buildings were far from the spot.

A senior fire official said, “The compound had a lot of inflammable scrap material stored there because of which firefighting became difficult.”
