The book describes the birth and the growth of HDFC bank that was started in 1994 and also looks at the new bank movement over the last two decades.

“HDFC bank was a vehicle to tell a human story about passion for excellence and middle-class professionals are the heroes in the story,” said Bandyopadhyay, who is the deputy managing editor of the business daily, Mint.

Chidambaram said, “The book captures the story of India’s growth after liberalisation and HDFC bank is an example of this growth.”

About the 18-year-old bank on which the book is based, HDFC bank chairman Deepak Parekh said, “Our bank is only a teenager, and though I thought it was too early for a book about the bank, it is much more than the story of HDFC and offers an easy understanding about banking.”
