Last week, the resident of Desale Pada, Nandivli was on his way to Dombivli station on his motorcycle when a stone dislodged by a vehicle passing over a poorly resurfaced road hit Mayekar in his right eye.

Mayekar, who works at a grocery store, did not think much of the ‘minor injury’. “Two days later, the vision in my eye started blurring,” he said. One of Mayekar’s friends took him to Eye Site Hospital in Dombivli.

The doctor has advised Mayekar to undergo a corrective surgery that will cost him around Rs 40,000.

“The natural lens of his right eye has been dislocated and a corrective surgery is the only option,” Dr Vinay Byatgi said.

Ramnath Sonawane, commissioner of KDMC “regretted” the incident. “We did use gravel and sand to fill the potholes and to level the road. The layering has come off during the monsoon. We regret the incident,” he said.
