Let’s befriend death

Death may come suddenly and in mysterious ways. From ancient times and even today, “death” is surrounded by fear, sorrow, loss and the ‘mystique.’ Sacred scriptures provide some explanations and try to instill meaning. It is strange and difficult to comprehend why a human being endowed with intellect and consciousness is unable to come to terms with this reality.

Scriptures say far from being contemplated with horror, the thought of death should be pleasant. The main reason that it is not is because we are not on intimate terms with our true nature; not conscious of the soul being the real self.

If we disregard the great spiritual laws that govern the progress of our souls, we are going to find things missing in ourselves. If we have deliberately violate laws laid down by the supreme Divinity, we have to suffer the consequences.

This world is dynamic and ever-changing. Just as our bodies grow and perform various activities, so too our souls; reacting to all that we do, sensitive, receiving impressions, motivating us all the time, to grow and develop.

Life, with all its beauty and all its richness and variegated experiences, is only the womb-world of the soul; death is the real life into which we are born. This is the whole concept of heaven and hell. Heaven is not a place, it is a state. The same is true of hell. They are both conditions inside every human being.

How true than the words of a poet: “I sent my soul through the Invisible / Some letter from that Afterlife to spell / And after many days my soul returned / And said: ‘Behold, myself am heaven and hell!’”

We do not go either to heaven or hell when we die, we take them with us.
