Filing an initial police complaint will no longer require you to make a trip to the police station. In a little over a month you will be able to do that online through the police and government website.
Be it chain snatching, loss of passport or mobile phone or even a case of domestic abuse, all complaints will be entertained through this facility.
After lodging the complaint, the police will call you within 24 hours. You can then track the status of your complaint online.
“The idea is to not have to go to the police station and, instead, file a complaint from the comfort of your home. This is part of our e-governance initiative to make services easily available to citizens,” Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said.
This e-complaint service will kick-off in Mumbai and Pune in mid-October. The software designed by MASTEK will be updated after the initial project takes off. Its scope will be increased to the entire state eventually.

First, you will have to go online and type in your name, type of complaint and choose the police station that is closest to the spot that the incident occurred. In case you do not know, that you can choose ‘don’t know’ on the option bar. You will finally need to feed in a mobile number and email-id, which will be diverted to the police station.

You will then be sent a tracking number.
“The police will acknowledge your complaint and carry out prima facie investigations. They will then decide if the case needs a FIR to be registered following which you might need to visit the police station,” said a senior home department official.
