Parents of Rameez, rehab meet police

A day after they returned to the city from Muscat, parents of Rameez and Rehab Chougule, the siblings from Versova who died in an alleged case of pesticide poisoning last month, met the police and offered their cooperation with the investigation of the case.

The Chougules on Friday morning met Vishwas Nangre-Patil, additional commissioner of police for west region.

"The Chougules said that they had left the city because they were shocked by the sudden deaths of their children and needed some peace of mind. They are willing to cooperate with the police in every way possible," said Nangre-Patil.

The Chougules returned to the city on Thursday and had expressed willingness to assist the investigation.

Officials from the Versova said that the expert medical panel of four doctors, which was to confirm the cause of their death, submitted its report on Monday. However, the report said that a fresh post mortem would need to be conducted.

"We have written to the additional commissioner seeking permission to exhume the siblings' bodies. We would have to seek the family's permission and approach the court of law as well" said an officer from the Versova police, who did not wish to be named.
