Security guard arrested for extortion bid

The Borivli police on Wednesday arrested two persons, including a security guard at National Park, for trying to extort money from the trustee of a well-known Ganesh temple in Borivli (West) posing as officers from the anti-corruption bureau.

The Borivli police on Wednesday arrested two persons, including a security guard at National Park, for trying to extort money from the trustee of a well-known Ganesh temple in Borivli (West) posing as officers from the anti-corruption bureau.

The third accomplice fled the spot, the police said.


The accused have been identified as Mahendra Lagade, 30, the security guard and Prakash Arthale, 41, a painter.

Police said the complainant, Bhalchandra Bhandari, 39, is the trustee of the temple in Vazira Naka in Borivli.

On August 24, Lagade and Arthale went to the temple posing as ACB officers. They threatened the staff into giving them Bhandari’s number.

The duo, has been booked for extortion, and has been remanded in police custody till September 6.
