St Xavier’s hosts science exhibition

Students of Xavier’s College are making flames dance in a Ruben’s Tube in tune with their playlist, and explaining sexual harassment faced by fish. On Friday, the college kicked off its two-day inter-collegiate science festival ‘Paradigm 12’, Meera Nair reports.

On Friday, the college kicked off its two-day inter-collegiate science festival ‘Paradigm 12’. A first for the college, the festival will host events, public lectures, exhibits and workshops.

“Science is not merely a subject for physicists, biologists, chemists or mathematicians. We believe science is a way of thinking and that it manifests itself in the habit of questioning,” says Aishik Ghosh, a second year BSc student and president of the festival.

While vice-admiral Shekhar Sinha, commander-in-chief of the Western Naval Command, inaugurated the festival, speakers such as vice-admiral Shekhar Sinha, Raghavendra Gadagkar from the Indian Institute of Science, Banglore, and physicist Ajoy Ghatak will deliver lectures on their field of expertise.

Apart from lectures and workshops, an exhibition competition has been thrown open to other colleges where students will demonstrate a working model of a science product.

For the last one year, a workforce of more than 300 students from various science departments of the college has worked on the festival.
