Over 40 years after the death of known folk singer and writer Annabhau Sathe, the state government will finally honour him by conserving his home in suburban Ghatkopar.

“We will accord heritage status to Annabhau Sathe's residence in suburban Ghatkopar by preserving in his memory,”Minister of State for Social Justice, Sachin Ahir said on Friday. There was a controversy over Sathe's residential address as it was not mentioned in the death certificate. His house in Chirag Nagar of Ghatkopar area was even sold out.
“Now the Government has cleared all the issues and proper residential address has been mentioned in the death certificate,” Ahir said. A committee of the Government officials was appointed for the task.
The person who is staying in Sathe’s residence currently would be rehabilitated somewhere else in the city, the minister said. Sathe contributed towards social awakening during India's freedom movement through his folk songs. He wrote 35 Marathi novels among which ‘Fakira’ is well-known.
