The driver who spilled the beans on Sheena Bora murder

During custodial interrogation, Rai told the police about Sheena Bora’s murder. The police cross-checked the facts after which Indrani was arrested. Eventually, Indrani’s former husband Sanjeev Khanna, was also arrested in the case.

It was the arrest of Indrani Mukerjea’s driver Shyamwar Rai in August 2015, in an Arms Act case, which brought the Sheena Bora murder case to light.

According to a source, the Khar police, after receiving a tip-off, arrested Rai on August 21 last year. He was found in possession of a 7.65 mm pistol.

In his confessional statement, Rai has said Sheena’s murder was plotted by her mother Indrani and executed by Khanna.

Excerpts from Rai’s statement accessed by HT reveal Indrani took Rai to conduct a reconnaissance near Gagode village in Pen tehsil of Raigad district on April 23, 2012, a day before Sheena was murdered by Khanna.

But the sequence of events between the pick-up and Sheena’s strangulation has been missing from Rai’s statement. He said that Khanna strangulated Sheena. Indrani then helped Khanna put her body in a bag, which was kept in the boot of the car.

Rai said he then drove to a forest near Gagode village where they poured petrol on the bag and set it on fire. The body was charred around 4am on April 25.

They left the place only after Indrani and Khanna were assured that the bag had been completely burnt without any remains, Rai told the police.
