Delhi-based band Friends of Linger recently released a single, Miss You, which is about two men who are madly in love, while the majority of Indian society is yet to accept homosexuality.
Inspired by his past, the band’s frontman Sharif Rangnekar wrote the lyrics three years ago but the band only started working on the song four months back.

“It was a pretty much spontaneous decision, when me, Adhir and Smiti started conceptualising the melody of the song. It shouldn’t have taken such a long time, but because of personal commitments we couldn’t finish it earlier, as we would have liked it to be,” he says.
Adhir Ghosh, who played the guitar for the song reveals that the band did not intend it to be a rock single. “I am not sure if we wanted it to be a rock number. But towards the climax when guitars take it to the next level, I think it kind of justifies the entire meaning behind the song,” he says. The band has also made a video on the song, which becomes India’s first music video which talks about homosexuality.

Conceptualised by Manav Malvai, the video, Sharif says, took only a day. “We shot majority of it inside my house and another location in Delhi. Since, Manav likes to keep things simple, so there wasn’t a lot that was required to shoot the video,” he says, adding that he was more scared about another thing.
“ I am not nervous or apprehensive about what people will say or how the audience will react to it. Honestly, I was more worried about exposing myself for the first time in front of camera ,” he laughs.
