I will never sing crass lyrics: Irfan Ali

Vocalist Mohammad Irfan Ali, who started his career with a singing reality show on TV, has recently lent his voice to songs that have topped charts, such as Banjara (Ek Villain), Dard dilo ke (The Xposé) and Baarish (Yaariyan).

The singer says that he is excited about singing more for Bollywood. However, Irfan, who has only sung soft numbers and does not want to experiement with peppy tracks, says, "I can't tolerate crass lyrics, so how can I sing them? I would rather sing romantic numbers with decent, meaningful lyrics than peppy numbers just for the heck of it."

Sharing his experience, Irfan says, "I feel blessed to have started my career with Rahman sir (AR Rahman), which actually happened because of SP Balasubramaniam (veteran singer) sir. He heard me sing during a concert for my guruji, K Ramachary's music school, and recommended my name to him." Irfan is often compared with singer Arijit Singh, more so since Singh made his debut with a duet alongside him ('Phir mohobbat' from Murder 2; 2011) and is very successful today. So does he feel about the comparison? "I am glad he is doing so well. We are friends. But, when it comes to singing, I consider him a competitor. It's always good to have some healthy competition," says Irfan.
