Mika is hitting the right notes

Mika Singh seems to have perfected the knack of picking the right tracks for Bollywood. Over the last two years, he has consistently been topping charts with Bollywood hits like Chinta ta chita, Pungi, Subah hone na de and Dhinka Chika.

I only sing four or five songs a year. I get offers for three to four every day, if I agree to do all those, I’ll end up singing 900 tracks a year!” Ask the Punjabi singer what makes him click with the masses and he says, “Kahi baar tukka bhi lag jaata hai (I get lucky, sometimes). From the beginning, Daler paaji (brother Daler Mehndi) and I were clear about one thing — we wanted to be celebrity singers, not just playback voices. I am not interested in singing 15,000 songs and becoming a legend.”

Mika has also sung for Ranbir Kapoor in his forthcoming Abhinav Kashyap film, Besharm. “Among all the newcomers, he is the most down-to-earth actor. Ranbir and Abhinav wanted me to sing the number,” says Mika, who is also acting in a film called Balwinder Singh Famous Ho Gaya, for which he is composing the music too.
