Paul McCartney was depressed and drank heavily after The Beatles split

The Beatles broke up in 1970 and the one person who was absolutely distraught was Paul McCartney.

The Beatles legend Paul McCartney has revealed how he took to drinking in a big way and almost ruined his career when the iconic four-piece English band, which also included John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, broke up in the 1970s. The singer-songwriter said he was gripped by depression and “took to the bevies” after the split, reported Female First.

“I was depressed at the time, yeah. You would be. You would be too. I was breaking from my lifelong friends, not knowing whether I was going to continue in music. I took to the bevvies. I took to a wee dram,” McCartney said.

“It was great at first, then suddenly I wasn’t having a good time. It wasn’t working. I wanted to get back to square one, so I ended up forming [his band] Wings.”
