Shilpa Rao: I'm not content with Bollywood music industry

Shilpa Rao feels that as people are experimenting with sounds and voices, the tonality of Bollywood music is bound to alter.

Shilpa Rao, who has had a successful year so far with regards to her Bollywood and non-film music projects, has recently returned from a tour in the US. She calls the experience “brilliant”, and is elated that she got a chance “to bridge the gap” between music lovers in the US and India.

The singer says that the visit also helped her with an international collaboration. “I have collaborated with two Swiss artistes, Lionel (da Saz) and Alan Chanel, my music manager. We will come out with something this year. What we are working on is experimental, and is in Hindi. It has a soulful vibe to it,” says Shilpa, who is busy with back-to-back gigs. “I am soon heading to the UK for another tour,” she adds.

Even though she is big in the live performance circuit, the 31-year-old has made a mark in B-Town as well. When asked if she is satisfied with what she has achieved in Bollywood, Shilpa says, “Everyone is tied to a goal. For me, it’s my songs and gigs. I wouldn’t say I am content, but the industry has given me a lot. I have made a lot of friends here. I am very fortunate to have worked with some of the best creative minds in Indian cinema. My sole aim is to put out something new for the audience each time.”
