Noida boy to launch cyber safety app lauded by Google

Noida boy Krishna Pandit will launch cyber safety app Netorians that was awarded by Google India on February 1

A 14-year-old city boy is set to launch a mobile app called Netorians, developed by him, which was also awarded by Google in a net safety competition held earlier.

Krishna Pandit, 14, being felicitated at the Google award ceremony. He was announced the winner on February 1.

The app, scheduled to be launched in the first week of April, aims to help users spread the word about internet safety. It features voice integration apart from options to share information and report any cyber safety related issues. In addition, its features such as ‘Transian’, ‘Passwordian’ and ‘Savian’ will help users translate content, generate passwords and keep their existing passwords safe.

The developer, Krishna Pandit, is a student of Vishwa Bharati Public School in Noida and said he learnt how to create apps from the internet.

“The app will help people keep their social media accounts safe so that there is no chance of hacking them. I got the idea of creating it when it came to light that even (Facebook founder) Mark Zuckerberg’s account was hacked,” said Pandit, the son of a contractor, who took two months to create the app and presented it in the second edition of the competition organised by Google, called Web Rangers. He was announced winner on February 1 by Google India.

The competition was held to promote digital literacy and spread awareness around internet safety. As part of it, thousands of children were asked to create and run their own online safety campaigns in the form of social media campaigns, posters, videos and applications.

“Many of the internet users in India are coming online for the first time. We need to simplify and amplify ways by which they can stay safe. Safer Internet Day provides for an important opportunity to engage and encourage young users across the country to learn more about keeping themselves as well as their peers and families safe online,” said Chetan Krishnaswamy, director, Public Policy, Google India.

Speaking of his future plans, Pandit said, “I have planned to build my startup with my two friends Rishav Talapatra and Aditya Dutta with the app as our first product.”
