Noida: Residents complain of open waste burning in Sector 62

Residents living in and around Block B of Sector 62 have complained of almost continuous burning of garbage near Alcatel. They allege that garbage is dumped at the spot every day and authorities have not taken cognizance of it despite repeated pleas.

According to residents, waste is scattered over 500 metres on both sides of the road and it is common to see heaps of garbage burning. The ban by National Green Tribunal (NGT) on open burning of garbage has barely had an impact in the city, they added.

They also claimed to have complained to the Noida authority four days ago, but said no official has visited the site.

“The road has become a dumping ground and authorities have failed to check this. Throughout the day, cyclerickshaws and autorickshaws keep coming here to dump waste. I have also seen people coming in luxury cars only to dump garbage,” said Nitish Tiwari of Shatabdi Rail Vihar.

He said the matter was taken up with the Noida authority earlier too, but nobody acted on it. He added that the problem is aggravated by sweepers who collect garbage from various residential societies and dump it in the area.

Noida authority chief executive officer, Deepak Aggarwal, said, “We have taken cognisance of the matter. A drive has been started to clear sites where garbage is dumped. Now that this area has been brought to our notice, it will also be resolved.”
