Taramati Pathak, 69, a social activist working against noise pollution, from Salisbury Park was booked for alleged extortion form a fellow resident of the area.
The incident happened between May 12, 2017 and May 17, 2017, when the complainant, Shobha Shinde, 55, had started renovation work in her house in Greenpark society of Salisbury Park township which is located a floor above Pathak's.
Pathak is a senior activist who has filed various noise pollution related cases from police stations to Bombay High Court. The activist asked for Rs 40,000 from the complainant in the form of damages. According to the complaint, the activist accepted Rs 20,000 cash first and then had Shinde's husband pay for her stay at a youth hostel in Quarter Gate area of Pune as she could not bare the noise of the renovation work.
"She told them that the noise from renovation will disturb her and that her work, which is mostly online, will be disturbed. She accepted the money but withina few days, she started complaining again," said police sub inspctor (PSI) Rajesh Usgaonkar of Swargate police station who is investigating the case.

{{/usCountry}}"The complaint was filed through a complaint application. We checked the voice recordings and dosuments related to the case. After putting it through our seniors, we registered a case," PSI Usgaonkar said.
A case under Sections 384 (extortion) and 385 (putting person in fear of injury in order to commit extortion) of Indian Penal Code was registered against the woman at Swargate police station.
