Considering the possibility of increased vehicular traffic on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway as many are expected to attend the Maratha Kranti Morcha in Mumbai, the highway police have banned heavy vehicles from the Expressway on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, members of the community from Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur and Ahmednagar travelled to Mumbai, leading to increased traffic on the Expressway. Considering the heavy traffic, the Highway police have appealed to citizens to avoid travelling to Mumbai through expressway.
According to RK Padmanabham, additional director-general of police (traffic), multi-axle vehicles have been barred to travel on the Mumbai-Pune expressway from 7 am to 7 pm on Wednesday.
Citizens participating in the rally will mostly leave for Mumbai on these two days. Vehicles from Pune and neighbouring cities will enter Mumbai from the expressway and the old Mumbai highway via Pune.
Vehicles coming from Solapur road will go to Hadapsar, Gadital-Kondhwa-Katraj bypass-Bengaluru highway and then to Mumbai.
Meanwhile, vehicles coming from Satara will go to Mumbai by the Bengaluru highway.
Vehicles coming from Ahmednagar will reach Mumbai via Wagholi, Yerawada, Holkar bridge, Bopodi. This traffic will start after Tuesday afternoon. The return journey of these vehicles on the same mentioned roads is expected on Thursday.

People from all of western Maharashtra have to go through Pune to reach Mumbai.
