Not just a team, but brothers in arms, say Indian rowers trained in Pune

In a team event like rowing, a co-ordination between rowers is crucial.

In lightweight double sculls rowing event, the Indian team of Rohit Kumar and Bhagwan Das won bronze after clocking 7:04.61.

Japan’s Miyaura Masayuki and Takeda Masahiro bagged the gold with a timing of 7:01:70, while the South Korean team of Kim Byunghoon and Lee Minhyuk settled for silver with a timing of 7:03.22.

“This was our first international tournament and we returned with a medal. We were capable of winning gold, but somehow lacked match temperament and experience. This was kind of learning step for us and in future will do better,” said Das, also an army rower.

In a team event like rowing, a co-ordination between rowers is crucial .

Das said, “We have been training together for several months. We share the same room and even share each and every problem with each other. We are like brothers, and we don’t feel shy to even discuss family matters.”

While Kumar said, “It is not just about sharing. We keep a watch on each other. I do not let my buddy eat or drink anything that is not good for his diet plan.
