The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s (PCMC) drive to validate unauthorised constructions has received poor response from residents with only seven applications being registered to take benefit of the scheme in the past four months.
The PCMC had introduced the scheme for authorising illegal constructions built before December 31, 2015, and to regularise them according to guidelines issued by the state government in September 2017. The civic body started the process to regularise illegal constructions four months ago but received poor response from residents. In the past month, the civic body only received seven applications.
Leader of the house in PCMC, Eknath Pawar, said, “We had taken many efforts to attract residents so that they can participate and take benefit of the scheme.But we came to know that because of the critical procedures involved, many people are staying clear of the scheme. In next eight days, we will make the procedure more user-friendly. It will be good for them as well as the civic administration.”
He added that the civic body came to know about the critical procedures involved only when they asked the officials concerned about the poor response to the scheme. “Hence, we have conducted a meeting with the municipal commissioner, mayor and standing committee chief in PCMC office to simplify procedure. According to it, within next week, the procedure will be made much easier,”he added.

{{/usCountry}}PCMC mayor Nitin Kalje said,“As per the state government's decision, the process for regularising the unauthorised constructions before December 31, 2015, was started by Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation four month ago. However, in these four months, only seven people have applied for the regularisation of properties. Citizens are unable to apply because of the critical application procedures involved, as per our research. Therefore, we decided to ease the procedure.”
