On the occasion of Dada JP Vaswani’s 99th birthday, on August 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished Dada through a live video conference from New Delhi.
On embarking upon his 100th year journey, he said,“I wish I could have been present at the celebrations myself, and have the opportunity to meet him again. However, as per the invitation I have just received for his 100th birthday, I will be very happy if I can fulfill it. Being in his presence allows one to experience the peace, joy and love that he continuously emanates.”
Recapitulating his earlier encounters with Dada, the PM added,“I always remember the thought that Dada shared with me, he said, do good to how many people you can, do good in whatever manner you can, and continue to do good as many times you can.” And holding on to the same principle PM Modi expressed,“I support the great efforts of Sadhu Vaswani Mission, that has for years been serving the people, especially the neglected, and downtrodden members of the society. In their mission to eradicate misery, I am with them.”
In line with the celebrations, he shared to believe that Dada’s words of wisdom on making the right choice in life is important for today’s youth who are to shape the future of the nation.
Taking this opportunity, the PM shared the vision of the government to transform the Champaran Satyagraha which completed its 100 years in 2017, as Swachhagraha, “Gandhi’s mantra was Satyagraha before Independence, now for the Independent India themantra is Swachhagraha. When we started Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the cleanliness in rural areas was less than 40 per cent, but now it has gone up to almost, 70 per cent.”
“People have realised the importance to be free from open defecation. Till now 2,17000 villages have declared themselves to be free from open defecation, and I feel this is the actual way of women empowerment,” he added.
Urging the people to join hands for Swachhagraha, he said,“Through this programme I want to reach out to all the social work organisations and individuals to further this initiative. One time drive is easy, be it on the roads, railway stations, parks etc. But, maintaining the cleanliness the continuously contributing your time and efforts is important for its true success. We all need to make this a habit.”
“So I request you to all take up a resolution in 2017 to make a new better India, with blessings of Dada Vaswani in 2022. Your resolutions to make a difference in the society, should be quantifiable to be achieved by 2022.
