Karnataka swimmers grabbed the gold medal with a new meet record with a timing of 4.31.70s. They broke Maharashtra’s record of 4.34.50s, set in 2013 in Kerala. This time Maharashtra clocked 4.35.15s and were followed by Tamil Nadu who finished in 4.41.73s.

In the men’s segment, Maharashtra failed to get a podium finish. Pune swimmers Shwejal Mankar and Mihir Ambre along with Harshwardhan Naik and Neel Roy were placed 4th with 4.01.68.

However, Maharashtra’s Veerdhawal Khade and Jyoti Patil saved the day for the state by winning a gold medal each, while Jyotsna Pansare bagged a bronze.

Khade dominated his pet event, 50m freestyle, with a timing of 23.18s, but he failed to get close to his national meet record of 22.71s set in 2009 in Kerala. Gujarat’s Anshul Kothari and RSPB’s Aaron D’souza were placed second and third respectively.

In the 50m backstroke event, Jyotsna finished in 31.91s, after Nivya Raja (Tamil Nadu) and Suvana C Baskar of Karnataka.
