At Government Senior Secondary School, Indirapuri, there are no students in Class 11 against three lecturers in History, Punjabi and Political Science who have joined the school. Around 70 students passed Class 10 from this school and are now studying in other government schools.
At Government Senior Secondary School, Engine Shed, only four students are studying in Class 11. To teach these four students, the school has four lecturers of English, Punjabi, Political Science and History. As many as 25 students had cleared Class 10 in this school.
An upgradation of 34 government high schools in June to senior secondary is taking a toll on their functioning as students have enrolled in different schools.
The schools should have been upgraded before the start of the new session in April. The school authorities have already issued transfer certificates and now trying to get their old students back.

{{/usCountry}}“The teachers here have also made no efforts to create awareness amongst residents and students that the school has been upgraded till Class 12. Now I am trying to contact the students who cleared Class 10 from our school and five to six students have agreed that they will join our school.”
A teacher of Government Senior Secondary School, Engine Shed, on condition of anonymity, said, “The school has only six classrooms to accommodate 220 students. We have no classroom to make the four students of Class 11 sit. Before upgrading the school, the government must check that schools have proper classrooms and infrastructure.”
At Government Senior Secondary School, Kasabad, the post of principal is lying vacant and only history lecturer has joined the school last week. 146 students have passed Class 10 and 82 are studying in Class 11 in the school.
For smooth functioning of the school, the master cadre teachers are teaching Class 11 students.
At Government Senior Secondary School, Mundian Kalan, the school has no classroom for 97 Class 11 students. In absence of benches, students are sitting on the floor in science laboratory. Around 110 students passed Class 10 from the school.

When contacted, DEO, secondary, Paramjit Kaur Chahal, said, “I am aware that few upgraded schools have lesser strength of students in Class 11 but school principals are directed to create awareness about new status of schools. The strength of students in Class 11 will increase from next academic session”.
