Apni mandis to accept plastic money, banks to provide swiping machines: UT admn

With an aim to overcome the cash crunch brought on by the demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs1,000 notes, the UT administration has asked banks to provide card swiping machines for purchasing vegetables and grains at the Sector 26 grain market, apni mandis and kisan mandis.

Grocery items such as grains and milk will also be sold at these markets at ‘mobile stores’ that will accept plastic money so that all household items are available at one place and customers don’t face any inconvenience. The administration launched these stores on Tuesday.

The administration has also decided that eight apni mandis at fixed areas will be held daily instead of earmarked dates. However, UT mandis will not be held in a particular area where the Punjab mandi board organises its mandi.

Cash stolen from donation box of P’kula crematorium

Panchkula: Cash went missing from a donation box at the Sector 28 cremation ground in Panchkula on Tuesday.

The donation box was kept in front of Shiva’s idol. When it was opened last time, the box had Rs 1,500.

Anand Aggarwal of Prabhu Sewa Dharmarth Trust informed the police that the same amount was expected to be in the donation box.

Ramgarh police post personnel are investigating the case.

Once earlier, the lock of the donation box was found broken.
