Meanwhile, the annual night temperature recorded since 1971 has also witnessed a rise of 2.7 degrees Celsius, there is a dip of 0.5 degree Celsius in the mean day temperature. In 1971, the mean minimum temperature recorded at night was 15.09 degree Celsius while the mean day temperature in the same year was recorded to be 29.93 degree Celsius.

However, in 2015, the mean minimum temperature rose to 18.5 degrees Celsius, the mean day temperature came down to 29.82 degrees Celsius.

Sharing the reasons for the rise in temperature, Surender Paul, director of meteorological centre, said, “It reflects the affect of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide, methane and water vapours. Because whatever radiations are received, they have to be released back into the space, but greenhouse effect trap the radiations, leading to change in weather.”

The data also shows that the year 2015 witnessed a 35% decrease in rainfall during the monsoon.
