Confident of making the upcoming ‘Lalkar’ rally of the Congress against drugs on January 22 a massive affair, district Congress leaders on Tuesday went into a huddle to finalise the venue for the rally.

After the BJP postponed its January 22 rally, Congress workers are upbeat over the prospect of making the Congress show a hit.

The meeting took place at the local office of Amritsar MP Capt Amarinder Singh.

Talking to Hindustan Times, District Congress Committee (rural) chief Gurjit Aujla said, “At the meeting, various locations such as Vallah, Majitha and Ranjit Avenue had been discussed as prospective venue for the rally.”

“We visited Vallah area today (on Tuesday). It looks good and spacious. It has a huge parking space and can accommodate a lot of people. There are also chances of holding the rally at Ranjit Avenue, but nothing has been finalised yet,” said Aujla.

“Other state-level leaders of the party are coming here on Wednesday. After a consultation with them we will announce the venue,” he added.

The BJP had made elaborate arrangements at Ranjit Avenue and even stage and barricades had been erected.
