Following expulsion, what next for Jagmeet Brar?

Former MP Jagmeet Brar, who was first elected to the Lok Sabha in 1992, had emerged as a tall leader in Punjab politics when he defeated Shiromani Akali Dal’s Sukhbir Singh Badal, currently the SAD president and Punjab deputy chief minister, in the 1999 Lok Sabha polls from Faridkot. Sukhbir at the time was a Union minister and his father Parkash Singh Badal was the CM.

However, he fails to keep up the momentum, and repeatedly lost elections after that. Despite this, the high command ‘adjusted’ him by making a Congress Working Committee (CWC) member and in-charge of Goa, which again the Congress lost badly.

After his suspension from the party in 2014 for asking the Gandhis to take a sabbatical, Brar tried his best to get a place in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and even met its president Amit Shah; but he failed to get anything. Left in the lurch, Brar reconciled with the Congress high command and his suspension was revoked in August last year. But, apparently after failing to get a Rajya Sabha nomination that he had aspired for, Brar started denouncing the party and state unit chief Capt Amarinder Singh in particular.
