“I will meet the immigration officials in India and discuss the issues of Indians residing in Canada. I will also meet the concerned police officials to consult the legal problems that students and migrants face there,” said Sidhu.

Speaking of the achievement of Jagmeet Singh, 38, who became the first Indian to be elected as the leader of New Democratic Party of Canada (NDP), one of Canada’s three largest national political parties, Sidhu referred to it as a huge accomplishment.

“Jagmeet is the leader of another party, but I still welcome him in the Parliament as he has been elected by the people,” he said.

“It is good to see a person of colour as the leader of a national party,” Sidhu said. He refrained from commenting on the perception about Sikhs in Canada. “I can’t tell if Canadian Sikhs are soft on separatists.”

On his visit to Golden Temple, he said, “I am fortunate that I got a chance to reconnect with my roots. I am thankful to the almighty that I was able to pay obeisance at this holy shrine.”
