The protesters alleged that a land mafia was trying to grab the land for private use. Asrar Tareen, president of Kafan Dafan Muslim Welfare Society said, “The WAKF board members in collusion with administration have leased out around 4.418 acres on Balloke Road. There is a nexus in place to please a few officials in the government department and members of land mafia.”

“WAKF act states that graveyard land cannot be leased out for any other purpose, but violating the act guidelines, authorities are leasing the land. The Punjab and Haryana High Court has issued stay orders on September 27, against construction on said land. But we want that the land be freed completely,” Tareen added.
