Beauty with a cause: Srishti Kaur, 19, Noida
Recently crowned Miss Teen Universe, Srishti Kaur, a student of fashion in London, is also an entrepreneur in the making with a strong social conscience. The crown, she hopes, will provide a platform to boost her business and the ‘Make in India’ campaign. An avid painter and dancer, this teenager also has big plans for her school for the underprivileged.
Secret sauce: A positive, never-say-die attitude and hunger for perfection.
Inspiration: “My inspiration is Sushmita Sen. She has an enviable poise, self-confidence and peerless beauty.”
Challenges facing India: “I believe the three major problems we face today are poverty, lack of sufficient resources in education, and inadequate employment to solve this problem. Gender inequality is also an issue as there is little emphasis on teaching mutual respect to students. Third is the filth that continues to mar our landscape for want of an efficient waste management system.”
Uplifting feature: “The most uplifting thing about India is our young population, which can ensure the success of the ‘Make in India’ campaign. We have the talent and the ability to work hard to realise our dreams and nothing can stop us from achieving the impossible if only we choose to work for it.”
The road ahead: “I am going to work on cancer awareness programs and also on my school for the under-privileged called ‘Apna Ghar’. Besides this, I will use my title to take my fashion brand ‘Crystal Sourcing’ to the global market, thereby giving a fillip to the ‘Make in India’ campaign.”
