A 15-year old girl was allegedly gangraped by four youths in the Chattri area or Shahpur in Kangra district. Though the incident occurred on November 23, it came to light when parents of the victim lodged a complaint at the Shahpur police station on November 28.
Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Hitesh Lakhanpal said the victim had gone to attend a jagrata (religious function) in the village where a youth, who was known to the girl, told her that a friend of hers was waiting outside.
On this pretext, the youth then took the victim to a secluded place where three others joined him and took turns at rape the minor.
“Two of the accused, Kanhaiya and Sanu, hail from the same village as that of the victim. The two others - Karan and Nitish - belong to Pathankot and Amritsar respectively,” said Lakhanpal.
“All the accused, all of whom are aged between 20 and 24 years of age, were arrested late on Saturday,” he said, adding that final medical examination report is awaited.
Meanwhile, the police has registered a case under Section 376 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Further investigations in the case are on.
